La Torre alle Tolfe
La Torre alle Tolfe nestles on a hill just outside Siena. The symbol of the winery is a medieval tower, which was used as a communication link during the Renaissance, i.e. before the advent of the telephone, between Castello di Brolio and the town hall on Piazza del Campo in Siena. Hidden under the tower is a tunnel that was built by interconnecting original Etruscan tombs to construct an escape route from La Torre to the woods.
Today this idyllic location is all the more interesting thanks to the administrator Sergio Lo Jacono, who cares for the land in a sensitive manner. Planted varieties are local to the Chianti with emphasis on Sangiovese and Ciliegiolo, Canaiolo and Colorino. Cellar work consists in preserving the original character without manipulation. The wine ferments and matures in neutral cement tanks. As a result you can enjoy an authentic Tuscan wine at a very attractive price point, a Chianti as it could or perhaps should taste. Thanks to its tannins and fine acidity Chianti Le Tolfe is an ideal partner during the winter season and for pairing with meat and fatty foods
