This wine is born from the idea of developing something absolutely particular
based on the local
This wine is born from the idea of developing something absolutely particular based on the local grape variety Shiava (DE. Vernatsch). Hartmann felt that the often forgotten or misinterpreted potential of this ancient variety needed to be reinterpreted, or we might say rediscovered.
It all began with a sunny, well-ventilated vineyard in Cornaiano at an altitude of 500 m with glacial moraine soil of medium consistency, where 50-80 year vines with deep roots grow. If they are cultivated naturally and with care, they only produce few tasty bunches with small grapes.
The basic idea of Donà Rouge is thus carried forward with an attentive and delicate vinification of the Schiava variety, with an addition of Lagrein 10% and Pinot Nero 10%. Instead of filtering the wine, Hartmann leaves it to rest for 20 months in wooden casks with another 10 months of bottling aging to obtain a red wine of character, very harmonious, spicy and silky.
