Yes, you read correct, a 2001 Verdicchio aged in concrete and stainless. No, you would never guess this wine in a blind tasting. This wine is the perfect showcase for the incredible texture, weight and under valued ageing potential of the Verdicchio grape. It is almost impossible to believe that there is no wood treatment. Natalino took a risk with this wine when he decided in 1997 to vinify separately the top selection of fruit from Vigna delle Oche, one or two bunches from each plant, and then leave the wine on it's lee's for 110 months, and another 10 in bottle. We are so glad he did. This wine is only produced in the best years, currently we have the 1998 and then we won't see it again until the 2001 is ready!  Verdicchio is one of Italy’s hidden gems, and at times I call it the ‘Chenin’ of Italy due to it also having a chameleon like character, as well as immense ageing capacity, and this wine is an ode to both of these ideas.
