Munjebel Rosso Monte Colla was born in 2010 with Nerello Mascalese grapes from Contrada Monte Colla.
Munjebel Rosso Monte Colla was born in 2010 with Nerello Mascalese grapes from Contrada Monte Colla, on clay sandy soil. A vineyard in a stunning position, very steep, completely terraced, at an altitude of 800 m. The first time Frank saw the vineyard he felt he was in Hermitage. With the wine Frank wants to demonstrate the extraordinary quality, according to the vintage, of Nerello Mascalese grown in soil different from lavic basalt, where wine was always grown, from ancient times.
The soil composition is sandy-clay and friable rock. The subsoil is friable rock. The exposition is south, south-west, in the high North Valley on Etna.
Munjebel Rosso MC is pure Nerello Mascalese. The grand cru vineyard is Contrada Monte Colla. The part of the vineyard destined for this wine is 0.5ha. The yield per plant is 500gr. The vineyard was planted in 1946.
Mechanical crushing. Fermentation with the whole grape (without stems) in 500-1,000l enological plastic tubs. Pressing after the malolactic fermentation around December/January. Aging in terracotta jars for 6-14 months depending on the wine. Bottling during the appropriate moon phase in June without clarification or filtration.
The wine has a total sulphite level of 10mg/l which the wine develops naturally. The level depends on the vintage. No products are added.
Depending on the vintage the production is approximately 1,000 bottles per year.
